Honorees Robert & Frances Bean
Robert R. and Frances Bean have a passion for helping others. Their interests include youth, the arts, women’s health, protecting natural resources and animals. They have made an impact through many Hawaii organizations, including Maryknoll School, the Hawaiian Humane Society, the Kapiolani Women’s Center, Hawaii Community Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawaii, Boys and Girls Club of Honolulu, Honolulu Museum of Art, and Malama Maunalua.
Both Bob and Frances are retired now and enjoyed busy and satisfying professional careers. Bob owned and operated Lopaka Hawaii Tours in the 1970s and 1980s, and Ihu Nui Sports Fishing in the 1990s. He owned and operated Alert Alarm of Hawaii from 1982 to 2012. Frances had a successful career in the hotel and hospitality industry.
Together, they have made a lasting impact at Maryknoll and have been instrumental in the school’s continuing renovation of classrooms to innovative and technology-driven 21st century learning spaces. In the community, they served as the chairs for the Hawaiian Humane Society Gala event in 2012 and Bob has been on the Humane Society’s executive committee for many years. Bob also served a term on the Hawaii State Ethics Commission and is an emeritus trustee of the Honolulu Museum of Art.
Bob and Frances are steeped in philanthropy through their families and church. “We are committed to giving back to the community. Giving can make a difference – we believe that.”
